Where is the best place to start learning Java? What do I need to know to understand what I'm learning. I would appreciate it if you could help me out.

Thanks.

Buy a book.
I know they're watching me, but I'm watching them so they better come properly.

Or, if you're in a school that offers a class on it, (probably won't be named 'Java class', mines named Computer Science however teaches 100% Java) enroll in that. That's what I did and I've done 12 weeks of it so far and I've learned quite a bit.

Last year I bought Java for Dummies, but that was the most confusing book I have ever read. I didn't get any of it. To many big words and etc.

Start small. Basic variables, keywords, input and output. Then get into methods. Then void-type methods. Then programs.
